Khangsar Khenchen Ngawang Khyentse Thubten Nyingpo
His Eminence was born in the year 1913, on the 15th Rabjung of the Water Ox year, in an area known as Nyang Zhung Palnam in the upper Tsang area, as the son of father Akhu Phurdhon and mother Penpa Lhamo.
At seven years of age, he came to Ngor. He took his ordination vows of an upasika (householder vows), many empowerments, and oral transmissions from Khangsar khenchen Ngawang Khyenrab Jampal Nyingpo.
From Khenchen Ngawang Lodoe Zhenphen Nyingpo, he received the vows of a Shramaner (novice monk), Bodhisattva vows, and many teachings, including precious Lamdre teachings.
At 25 years of age, he got recognized as the reincarnation of Khangsar Khenchen Ngawang Lodoe Nyingpo and was given the title Zhabdrung Ngawang Khyentse Thubten Nyingpo.
From those great abbots, and many other scholars and realized masters were relied upon, including Tanag great abbot Ngaggi Wangchuk, Lama Ngaglo Rinpoche of Nalendra, Khenchen Sangye Tenzin, Dezhung Khenchen Choephel completed an ocean of hearing of Sutra, Mantra, together with other knowable topics. He completed meditational retreats associated with the group of Tantras. At 33 years of age, he came upon the great throne as the regent of the Victorious Vajradhara. Connected and placed many disciples upon the stages of ripening and liberating through the bestowal of Three Vows and other teachings, Precious Lamdre teachings as the primary. Then, he traveled to Kham (Eastern Tibet), and at various places such as Upper Ga, Trehor, Lithang, Deghe, Throm Dokhog, and many areas of lower Dho, he performed tasks for dharma and sentient beings. Then, he went to Ngor, the Land of Evam. Again, at 46 years of age in Fire Rat Year, he ascended upon the dharma throne of Evampa. For two years, having resided at the dharma capital of Ngor (Dhensa), he carried on the noble deeds via the bestowal of three vows and Precious Lamdre teachings. In the earth pig year, when a change in time occurred in Tibet, he traveled to India. Having visited Gangtok, Darjeeling, Spiti, and Gyud Teng turned a number of wheels of dharma, which included the bestowal of precious Lamdre teachings. During the Earth Horse Year, he traveled to Manduwala within Dehra Dun, India, where he took the primary responsibility in building the new Ngor Monastery and Khangsar Guru Residence. In particular, at 64 years of age, he built a new monastery and shrines in Spiti Karzey Monastery and bestowed several ripening and liberating pithy instructions of precious Lamdre teachings for the assemblage and for disciples. In the Fire Rabbit Year, he traveled to Tibet, where he bestowed the three vows and Lamdre teachings in many monasteries in the upper and lower eastern Tibet initially and later in the monasteries of Central Tibet (Wu Tsang). He gave the vows of a novice monk and the vows of a fully ordained monk. Thus, he revived and restarted the fire of dharma in Tibet. In Particular, he renovated the shrines and the temples of Evampa, the capital of dharma of the Ngorpa school, and Khangsar Guru Residence. Eventually, at 76 years of age, in 1988 of the water dragon year of 17th Rabjun, he passed away into Nirvana at Evam, Tibet.
