Naljor Jampal Zangpo

He was born in the earth bird year of 1789 in the Tsen Gyatso Ling of upper Tsang as the son to father Pema Dhondup and Mother Pema Bhuthrid. He was given the name Pema Thinley. At six years of age, he came to Evam Thartse and got involved in listening and contemplation.

At 13 years of age, he got ordained as a novice monk under Ngawang Thamchoe. At 21 years of age, he received the fully ordination vows in a ceremony presided over by Jampa Sonam Paljor as the abbot and Palden Choekyi Gyaltsen as the in charge of activity.

Under the supervision of these abbots and preceptors and from other eminent masters such as Jampa Kunga Tenzin, Phenkhang Zhabdrung Rinchen Gyatso, Kunga Dhondrup and so on he took number of empowerments, permission empowerment etc connected with classes of tantras, in particular the pithy instructions of the precious lamdre teachings he conducted listening and contemplation. He also completed meditational retreats of deity hevajra and so on.

At 47th years of age, in wooden sheep year he ascended upon the dharma throne of Evampa as the regent of Jampa Paldhen Zangpo. He bestowed seven times in totality seven times ripening and liberating teachings backed by oral transmissions of precious lamdre teachings. He bestowed the vows of novice and fully ordained monk’s vows. Until 57 years of age for a period of seven years, he presided over as the throne holder of the headquarter of Ngorpa school. Then, appointed Ngawang Lodoe Tenzin as his regent.

At 55th year of age, he travelled to Deghe Lhundrub Teng. From then on until he was 60 years of age, he worked for dharma and sentient beings in Kham. At sixty-nine years of age, he was given recognition as Thig Thigu Chi Khenpo for this great master’s contribution towards overall betterment of dharma and in particular of Ngor school by Gadhen Phodrang, (the palace of Dalai Lama). This eminent master turned the wheel of dharma uninterruptedly marked by bestowal of precious lamdre teachings nine times.

His disciples included two ornaments: Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, Ngawang Lodoe Nyingpo, ten upholders of Evampa school: Phenkhang abbot Kunga Tenpei Lodoe, Khangsar Khenchen Ngawang Sonam Gyaltsen, jamyang Sherab Gyatso, Jamyang Namkha Gyaltsen and Jamyang Sherab Choekyi Gyaltsen and others, six great beings comprising of Ngawang Mindrol Gyatso and others, four great dharma kings: Deghe dharma king Choekyi gyaltsen tsewang dorje rigzin or later ordination name holder Jampa Kunga Gyaltsen etc, Seven exponents of valid reason and authentic text citers such as Tanag Abbot Senge Rabgye. Eventually at seventy-six years of age, in the wooden bird year of 14th Rabjung in 1864 he passed away into Nirvana.
