He was born in 1872 of fifteenth rabjung of water monkey year as the son of father Sahbdrung Janyang Sherab Gyatso the son of Great Sharchen and the mother, daughter of Deghe Hocho Tsang. While residing in his mother’s womb a prediction was made by the throne holder of Sakya Jigme Sonam Wang gyi Gyalpo that this child will be of benefit to sentient beings and for the dharma. He was given the name Jigme Sonam Wangyi Gyalpo. At a very young age, he travelled to Deghe with his mother and listened to ocean like profound and vast teachings from Je Lama Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and Gen Jangchub Sangpo. From Ngor Phendhe Labrang’s great abbot Ngawang Kunga Tenpei Gyaltsen received Lamdre etc the kindness of three vows.
After that, having observed that the vow stream or lineage of ngorchen becoming weak or feeble, he took the Vinaya vow lineage of ngorchen from great diligent master Jamyang Lodoe.
Furthermore, having relied upon countless gurus of scholar and meditator he went across the ocean of hearing on sutras, tantras, (upadesha) whispered lineage pithy instructions and literature. At Yid Lung Lhatso he remained in meditation retreat for 16 years and completed infinite deities’ matching in number of retreats of auspicious signs. Then, at 53 years of age in wooden mouse year at Ngor Evam Choedhen he came about as the regent of Vajradhara Kunga Zangpo. He caused showers of dharma of ocean of tantras including precious madre teachings. He performed boundless dharma activities including the renovation of all the murals on the walls inside the great hall of empowerment in Ngor. Eventually, at 55 years of age, in 1926 of fire tiger year and on the 11th date of the eleventh month of Mongolia after completing winter teaching of triple vision he passed away for the benefit of other sentient beings.
