At Ngor E-wam Chöden, historically there are said to have been eighteen residential houses, but later there were actually eleven in existence: Mi-nyag, Ling-pa, Rong-po, Dan-ma, Pön-po, Nyag-re, Lo-bo, Chu-dü, Zhi-de, Bum-pa, and Lho-pa residential houses. The source regions for monks of each of these houses are as follows: All sangha members who come from the regions of Dö-mé Mi-nyag area, Lhasa, Lhoka, Zhikatsé, Gyal-tsé, Chuk-po Zhung and some nearby areas - whether they reside permanently at this monastic seat or come temporarily to receive teachings - belong to the Mi-nyag residential house. Those who come from the Dergé jurisdiction in Dö-kham belong to the Ling-pal residential house. Those who come from the Kardzé area in Dö-mé, Amdo, Golok area, and the Zhitsé Dra-khul area belong to the Rong-po residential house. Those who come from the Ga-tö area and Dan-khok area belong to the Dan-ma residential house.

Those who come from Nyarong, Lithang, and Tau areas belong to the Pön-po residential house.Those who come from Drak-yab, Mar-kham, Tro-zhika jurisdiction, and Kang-zhi belong to the Nyag-re residential house.Those who come from Lo-bo and the northern Nam-tso region including Ser-pa and Jong-nag, Nak-tsang Tso-druk, upper and lower Drong-pa, and descendants of Bal-po settlers in the Zhitsé area belong to the Lo-bo residential house.Most of those who come from the Sakya area and its vicinity belong to the Chu-dü residential house.Those who come from the upper Ngari area belong to the Zhi-de residential house.Those who come from the northern Truma Druk-chu area and Ta-nak area belong to the Bum-pa residential house.Most of those from the Jomda area of Dergé and Go-jo area belong to the Lho-pa residential house.This is clearly stated, and after political changes, no new residential houses were established in India.

Mi-nyag residential house includes: The four valleys of Me-nyag; from Ü-Tsang: Lhasa, Lhoka, Gyang-tsé, Pal-nam area (Zhikatsé, Chuk-po Zhung and some nearby areas)
Dan-ma residential house includes: Ga-tö, the twenty-one Dan monasteries
Rong-po residential house includes: Kardzé, Amdo, Golok area; in Tsang: Zhikatsé, Drang area (Zhitsé Dra-khul area)
Bum-pa residential house includes: The northern plateau Truma Druk-chu area; in Tsang: Ta-nak area
Ga-zi residential house includes: Mostly the Joda area and Go-jo
Zil-non residential house includes: Lithang area
Ling-pa residential house includes: Mostly the eastern valleys of Dergé and Ling-tsang
Pön-po-ra residential house includes: Nyarong, Tau, Chatreng area (Lithang)
Nyag-re residential house includes: Drak-yab, Mar-kham, Jupa area, etc.; in Tsang: Tro-zhika area, Kang-zhi, Druk
Lo-bo residential house includes: Upper and lower Lo, northern plateau upper area (from the northern Nam-tso region: Ser-pa and Jong-nag, Nak-tsang Tso-druk, upper and lower Drong-pa, descendants of Bal-po settlers in the Zhitsé area)
Zhi-de (Zhi-de) residential house includes: Ngari, Ladakh, Spiti area
Lho-pa residential house includes: Nangchen, Wara, Shong-tho, Le-da area (Jomda area of Dergé and mostly Go-jo area)
Chu-dü residential house includes: Sakya, Chu-dü, Chib-lung area
